EPSO AD5 Results: When They Come Out, Pass Marks and What Happens After Part 1
Pass marks, how the ranking really works, when the reasoning results are released and what comes next in 2027: everything about EPSO AD5 2026 results.
After the Part 1 reasoning tests of EPSO AD5 2026 (planned to start in November 2026), every candidate wants to know the same things: did I pass, when will I know, and what happens next? Here is how the results work.
The pass marks of Part 1
To go through to Part 2, you need both:
- Verbal reasoning: at least 10/20.
- Numerical + abstract reasoning: at least 10/20 combined (10 numerical questions + 10 abstract questions).
If you miss either pass mark, your competition ends at Part 1.
The key point: your verbal score keeps counting
Here is what many candidates miss. Numerical and abstract reasoning are pass/fail: once you reach 10/20 combined, they are not used for the ranking. Your verbal reasoning score, on the other hand, counts in the ranking:
- In the preliminary combined score, used to decide whose essay is marked: verbal 40%, EU knowledge 30%, digital skills 30%.
- In the final score, used for the reserve list: verbal 35%, EU knowledge 25%, digital skills 25%, written essay (EUFTE) 15%.
So the strategy is clear: secure the pass mark in numerical and abstract, and push your verbal score as high as possible. A 16/20 in verbal gives you a real head start for 2027.
When do the results come out?
- EPSO plans to release the reasoning results after Part 1, before inviting successful candidates to Part 2. The exact release date has not been announced.
- Results are published in your candidate account (Single Candidate Portal), not sent by post. Check your account and your spam folder.
- Because testing is spread over several days or weeks, results will not come the day after your test. Be patient.
What happens next: Part 2 in 2027
If you pass Part 1, you are invited to Part 2 in 2027, in your language 2:
- EU knowledge: 30 questions in 40 minutes, pass mark 15/30. EPSO publishes the sources about two months before the test.
- Digital skills: 40 questions in 30 minutes, pass mark 20/40.
- Written essay (EUFTE): marked only for the best-ranked candidates on the preliminary combined score, about 1.5 times the number of places (around 2,235 candidates).
Then come the final ranking, the eligibility check (based on the documents you uploaded) and the reserve list of 1,490 successful candidates. Being on the list does not guarantee a job: institutions then recruit from the list.
If you did not pass
It hurts, but it is common: with about 175,000 applicants, most candidates do not get through. Use your score as a diagnostic, and keep practising. EPSO runs graduate competitions regularly, and reasoning skills improve a lot with timed training.
Maximise your score before the test
Before Part 1, every extra point in verbal counts twice: once to pass, and once in the final ranking. Start with our free timed test. The Reasoning pack gives you the verbal, numerical and abstract modules with explained answers, and a Part 1 final exam that applies the real pass marks.
